A SAFETY CULTURE THAT SAVED LIVES
Workplace safety is a non-negotiable, no matter which industry you’re in. But when it is the backbone of your business, it becomes an existential priority far beyond rules and tick boxes.
THE PERFORMANCE CHALLENGE
Workplace accidents and near-misses have a devastating impact on performance. Even when there are no injuries or fatalities, they drain productivity, drive up costs, and erode trust.
Meridian, a leading pan-African agri-business with operations across Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe, engaged TPA at a time when the stakes were especially high: Peak season was approaching, and thousands of employees working in high-risk environments were counting on a safer workplace.
Meridian had safety protocols in place, but ticking compliance boxes wasn’t enough.
They needed to move beyond checklists to embed safety as a shared mindset at every level of the business.
THE ASK
Create a comprehensive safety programme
that would engage employees at all levels.
Roll out
targeted safety training initiatives.
Strengthen leadership's role
in driving the
safety culture.
Ensure that
safety principles
were actively
practised daily.
Our first order of business was to determine what success would look like.
We narrowed it down to:
High engagement
in safety
training programmes.
Increased reporting
of unsafe acts
and conditions.
Significant reduction
in workplace incidents and near misses.
Enhanced leadership visibility
and commitment to safety.
