TRANSNET | GCE TALENT NURTURING

Blueprinting the future ethical leaders of Transnet.

THE PERFORMANCE CHALLENGE

Transnet is a 55 000-person strong logistics company, with over 100 years of experience as South Africa’s custodian of ports, rail and pipelines. Transnet has a dramatic responsibility to its clients, people and country to deliver globally competitive, sustainable, ethical and innovative business results.

In order to evolve their strategy and reimagine an admirable culture in a VUCA world, Transnet knows that they need a people development system that forges great leaders. Leaders that magic theory into practice to deliver tangible, meaningful impact.

Transnet needed a talent pipeline that can lead into the future world of work.

THE SOLVE

The 4th Development Revolution! GCE Talent Nurturing Programme is a five-year journey to rewrite the DNA of Transnet.

The journey consists of three 18-month intakes of 120 high-potential, high-performing leaders. e-Learning, WITS Business School modules, Masterclasses, executive coaching and Action Learning Projects worked together to nurture a Transnet Future Leader, and build a robust talent pipeline that sets the tone for an ethical, high-performance culture.

A striking emphasis is on experiential learning and mentorship, in order to land practices within the halls and across the rails of Transnet itself. This is learning that is meant to LIVE. These are leaders compelled to LEAD.

THE PROGRAMME PROVIDES POWERFUL, STRUCTURED SUPPORT FOR PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. IT DEVELOPS LEADERS WITH A POTENT DESIRE FOR PERSONAL MASTERY, STRATEGIC PERFORMANCE AND A MIGHTY, ETHICAL CULTURE.

Living and breathing learning

We are forging adaptive leaders by integrating formal, collaborative and experiential learning. Across platforms, we want to teach and land learning agility — an inherent desire to learn on demand and cross-pollinate teachings for novel solutions to complex problems.

Similarly, the Talent Nurturing Programme itself is fluid. Reflection is constant, and impact is assessed and reported on monthly, enabling proactive planning and pivots.

OUR IMPACT

We’re in it! The first intake has offered up enormous results, with incredible engagement and positive interview responses from peers, managers and clients. Feedback and reflection reveal candidates have grown in resilience, approachability, collaboration and proactivity.

The Action Learning Projects in particular are staggering; revealing projects that have the potential to yield billions in ROI and millions in cost savings.

Transnet has committed to shaping a world-class people development system, to meet its aspirations now and into the future. Talent is growing … watch this space.
